I was trying to paint a picture today, but seems the color i was using was just a pigment of my imagination...

Haring was one of the lucky people, the ones who never listened to anyone and felt that mark burning through their fingers, just looking for a place to be , a new home.

You cant sell news stories that have data and cautious predictions. Where is the panic? Where is the impending doom? C'mon people , give me something to work with here…

Keith Haring - The Playfull

I like people who feel that they need to leave a mark.
Unfortunately most people who have that urge,  don’t have anything to say and don’t know what mark to leave if they could. Haring was one of the lucky people, the ones who never listened to anyone and felt that mark burning through their fingers, just looking for a place to be , a new home.

I don't think art is propaganda; it should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it."
A graffiti artist in his soul, Haring often got into trouble with the law by painting his signature  figures on places where, well, where adults don’t want you to paint. He painted on the walls of new York, but if you look closely at the images, it was not graffiti. It was the crazy preacher standing on the corner of the street, only instead of bashing a bible he was waving a marker.
That was his apex. That is Keith Haring for me.
Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic."
After that? There was progress in the complexity, there were visuals which are flabbergasting, and there was a very clear artistic identity that was there to teach us something , to connect in a very basic comic way. But it was lacking. It was like the new testament, not the original. It was like a life project dedicated to explain those first graphic message Keith Haring was put on this earth to deliver.
Nothing is important...so everything is important."

I do have to say that his later work, experimenting with basic color structures are some of my favorite pieces of modern art. Don’t get me wrong, whatever he touched was art. Sort of . But no matter how good it was , no matter how complex was the puzzle of images and textural motifs, it could never compete with those simple black and white posters of his preaching pencil.

As Simon and Garfunkel  sang, the words of the prophets are painted on the subway walls, and he was indeed a prophet, of love, of peace, of simplicity, but more of all, throughout every second of his career, and probably it is safe to say his life, Keith Haring was a prophet of the people.

I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can.
Haring was very much a people person and saw art as something public, something that belongs to the public and has to come from the public. His 'liberty statue' project with nine hundred school children from different levels of society is a charming attempt, successful I might say, to involve the younger generation in personal creation as a key for a better future.
I'd like to pretend that I've never seen anything, never read anything, never heard anything...
and then make something... "

"I think he is as important as andy warhol' said Dennis Hopper in Harings last exhibition opening. And Dennis Hopper, being one of the most respected art collectors around, being a true intellectual and being, well, Dennis Hopper is someone we should listen to.

Both Warhol and Haring confused the border between low and high art, both took themselves seriously enough to not take themselves too seriously and both, without any doubt, created art that would stay forever in the pages of history, a proud testament of their vision.
