As a designer I know that design is much too important to be left in the hands of designers.

Fashion is exactly like religion, and that is exactly why I despise it and think it is poisonous and harmful.

You cant sell news stories that have data and cautious predictions. Where is the panic? Where is the impending doom? C'mon people , give me something to work with here…

FASHION – Terrible trends

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” – Oscar Wilde

As I am doing the final stages of the article I have found an opening sentence that shocked me, a sentence I have never thought I would think, not to mention say out loud or god forbid write down.

Fashion is exactly like religion.
Yes.  I have said it. Fashion is exactly like religion, and that is exactly why I despise it and think it is poisonous and harmful. But how is fashion like religion? Both are basically a good thing, a positive force thought of by people of immense inspiration and the understanding of the world and human beings.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”- Coco Chanel

In that sense Coco Chanel is like Jesus,  and like the poor hippie fisherman who's words of wisdom have been distorted, manipulated and marketed like cheap underwear in a Mexican whorehouse her message was lost long ago. So fashion is not to be blamed. It's just all the people in the fashion industry that should be locked forever.

All fashions are charming, or rather relatively charming, each one being a new striving, more or less well conceived, after beauty, an approximate statement of an ideal, the desire for which constantly teases the unsatisfied human mind."
- Baudelaire, Charles

It seems to be a recurring theme, because every time you put the word industry after a 'good' word, it immediately sends me to look for my baseball bat.

the music industry. The health industry. The news industry. It seems that 'industry' is like a parasitic entity that sucks the goodness out of everything it touches.

A fashion is nothing but an induced epidemic."
- George Bernard Shaw

The problem must be in the speed that progress is pushing us towards the next nothing new trend , that like a butterfly's fart lasts but an instant and leaves no trace. The ideas I hear the fashion giants like coco Chanel, Yves saint Laurent , pier cardin, Armani and the rest of the people who have become brands themselves are the basic idea of nature, of good design, of harmonic juxtaposition between beauty and usability, between luxury and good taste, but there is absolutely no sign of these ideas in the fashion industry today.

The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” – coco chanel

What is a fashion house want in the trap of having to come up with something completely new every six months just because of its share holders and board of directors greed and stupidity? What would happen if a new style came, in an almost organic manner, when a new style came, and not because the magazines need to publish a new style headline every couple of months? What would happen if people were encouraged to buy new cloths every couple of years because they need new cloths and not as a mechanism for self approval and compensation for the hollow lives? Ah, but I am only dreaming.

Fashion is the science of appearance, and it inspires one with the desire to seem rather than to be." - Fielding, Henry

I can relate to the people who hate fashion, as this is indeed an industry of destructive influence, distorting the human image into some hairless anorexic nightmare that make women around the world miserable. (at least we passed the phase when gay fashion designers, like there is any other kind, use to choose models that look like twelve year old boys, and now there is more awareness to the fact curves are not evil, and that bones sticking out are more reminiscent of Africa's hunger problem then high couture.)

The rich will always be stupid and will always go for the worst kind of fashion there is, the newest trend,  but let them. They are none of my concern. As for real fashion? The one that determines what a generation wears? Forget your instant fashion industry news and remember how wise was your Jesus, coco Chanel :

The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good, on you!” – coco chanel
