I went to renew my poetic license today, but they said first I need to do an I exam

How can you not admire a person who uses every iota of his mind to create a notion so real and so fine only to blow it up with a fast bright pin of brilliant self sarcasm.

You cant sell news stories that have data and cautious predictions. Where is the panic? Where is the impending doom? C'mon people , give me something to work with here…

Terry Pratchet – The Crazy Creator

I have no use for people who have learned the limits of the possible."

Terry pratchet scares me. One person should not have so much power. Creating worlds with such an innate inner logic that baffles me everytime I read again (and I do all the time) one of his novels. And there are so many of them. Each one with it's own distorted logic.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Other than being as witty as Douglas Adams wanted to be (sit back down, I know. Yes, you are right, Adams is the kings) pratchet has this ability to ridicule almost anything under or above the sun, with subplots that ridicule the original ridiculing story line. Let's face it. He's just a bastard.

Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence
every time.

Black goes with anything.
At least anything black.”

Pratchet is a prolific writers, with dozens of books in different  themes, a lot of them children books, but is most known for his Discworld novels, a series of unbelievably funny stories of alternative existence,  which somehow always seem a little too close to truth to allow us to actually laugh without that lingering doubt as to what he is really telling us.

God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

One of my favorite books is PYRAMIDS which I have just finished for the umpteenth time last week. A nice afternoon on the sofa.
If I have to recommend this one book and for one reason it is for the best mathematician in the world, which is of course a camel and the dead ghost of the king trying desperately to pass the message to the high priests that  he does not want to have a pyramid over his head for eternity. Need I really say more?

I wish the Captain were here. He wouldn't have known what to do either, but he's got a much better vocabulary to be baffled in."

Terry pratchet has the uncanny ability of manipulating a small fact in our known history, our belief system or thought process in such a way the new creation is a witty mutation that is so absurd in nature it forces us to recognize the silliness of the original work assumption it was born from. By creating a chaos-theory level disturbance in the facts, the alternative creation is not a figment of the imagination but what Einstein used to called 'gedangnt experiment' or 'thought experiemnt'. The assumption of an outcome based on real factual parameters.

It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it's called Life.

The other thing I love about his books is his innate ability to recognize, analyze, scrutinize , do some more things finishing with ize , and then put to paper the lowest of human feelings. He is a specialist in 'heroes' who are cowards. He is the master of describing the brain of 'enlightened' people on all its misconceptions, doubts, mortal fears and obsessive needs and wants.

He is the painter of disillusioned relaxed desperation, and does it in a witty, charming, and at times, gut busting full on laughter way. And most important of all? He is smart. Very smart. If someone is taking the piss out of my world I want him to at least be smart. Right? Highly recommended.

I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.
