When I look around the world, and against my doctors orders I do look around the world, I sometimes wonder if people are not just plain old stupid. Sometimes. The other times I do not wonder, I am sure of it.
Maybe I am just being harsh. Maybe I am not being harsh enough. When I look around the world I see millions and millions of people who are making decisions which are against their basic interest, and when I try to state that fact out loud I am treated either like an idiot, naïve or just a troublemaker.
Let s take one small example. The tea-bagger. You really have to be a complete moron not to see that everything the people who are supported by this ignorant pseudo patriotic mob believe in is against the interest of their supporters.
There were always groups of ultra rich who took advantage of the poor, because they are weak, because they are ignorant, because they are afraid. Let's face it, taking advantage of the poor is like shooting fish in a barrel, and with the system that is in place today it is like shooting fish in a barrel when the fish are drugged and tied up, and they are already inside the barrel of a gun. You don’t even need to aim.
But getting the poor to support and promote the ultra rich who are raping them? That's unbelievable. You need either a brilliant plan and maneuvers or poor who are so dumb they ask to be raped. In the tea party case it is the combination of both. If we used to talk about the Helsinki syndrome where the victim starts to identify with the causes of the kidnappers, now we have the Washington syndrome.
But why go so far as politics? Look at the basic decisions people make on a daily basis. People pay twenty times the worth of a t-shirt because somebody put a big graphic sign on them. Same t-shirt from the same factory. Twenty times more. I could understand it if it was my family crest, or some work of art that adds unimaginable value to that t-shirt. I would definitely pay five times more for a really cool and interesting graphic design.
It adds to my life, it enriches the people who see it, and it shows I have an inclination to the art world and maybe even good taste. But a name of another company? Just the basic fact I am doing free advertisement for a company that has nothing to do with me is baffling enough, but paying twenty times more for the privilege of doing so? I don’t know, In my logic it should be – you can buy the t-shirt for 5x , but if you are willing to go around as our billboard every time you wear it we will give it to you for 1x. that's the way it should work, no?
We cannot live a minute without a phone giving us radiation and limiting our freedom because they managed to convince us no one can survive without one? I can live with that. By making sure we have no idea there is such thing as 'history' that marketing plot actually worked. Paying twenty times more for the honor to play angry birds and then making sure you must have the right kind of phone too, because the competitors don’t even count? Brilliant.
When I talk about smart phones I can almost feel the stupidity of their owners seeping through the walls and under the door to nibble at my feet under the computer table so I will go back to politics. Yes, I prefer to talk about politics than about apple. It IS that bad.
Politics these days seem to me more surreal than ever. It is a test. It is a test designed by the rich and powerful to see how far can they go, how stupid can people really be, how gullible people really are. They have nothing to lose.
If we don’t bite? There's another candidate with a better haircut and even more stupid speeches to take the failure's place. The reservoir of puppets is infinite. And oh, do we bite. Into the dream of democracy, into the fallacy of growth at any cost, at the charade of priorities that stands on fear and not hope.
It is a test.
And it is the only test we all pass.
And with flying colors. Usually white red and blue colors.
