He wears a suit, he says fuck a lot, he is a capitalistic pig with socialist ideas, he is as white as can be and as male as can be, and he knows better. No wonder I don’t like him. No wonder I never miss any of his shows or standup.
 

 

You cant sell news stories that have data and cautious predictions. Where is the panic? Where is the impending doom? C'mon people , give me something to work with here…

Bill Maher - The Bill of wrongs

I don’t like Bill Maher. I am quite sure that if we met in some house party, probably both hiding in the kitchen far from the 'happy people' I i would spend most of the time trying to humiliate him. Just for fun.
There is something that pisses me off about smug people. Even when that smugness is directed towards people I would direct some more destructive things at, I still find it nauseating.

Other than that he is usually brilliant. He actually earned that smug look he has. Which, like other despicable things does not make it ok.
Bill Maher has, as a political and social commentator very little sentiments to the people he fries, and the smugness is because of the great joy he finds in this job, something that we all wish we could do ourselves.

 
 

If you ask people to choose between the job of suntan lotion spreader in the playboy mansion or being able to tell a politician in front of 20 million people he is a lying knifing sack of shit and bloated WITH hypocrisy then….ok…maybe that was not the best example…kicking politicians ass is fun but still…you know… but you get my point.
 
A lot of good has come from drugs. I think 'Penny Lane' is worth 10 dead kids.
Dark Side of the Moon is worth 100 dead kids. Because a lot of kids wouldn't even be born if it weren't for that album, so it evens out.
 
And Bill Maher has been doing his job relentlessly, usually with great success, in a charming funny and…yes, smug way for two decades which give his arguments another dimension of gravitas. He really is involved in the political sewer and its inhabitants, he knows them since they were but small soft rectums just starting to notice the potential of the damage they can inflict on us all.
 
 

As a Cornell history scholar, he is much more than a comedian. And that scares people as he is hard to place on the 'how shall I treat this wierdo' scale. If conservatives get to call universal healthcare 'socialized medicine,' I get to call private, for-profit healthcare 'soulless, vampire bastards making money off human pain."
 

One of the big crusades bill Maher took on himself was to show how ridiculous religion is, how stupid and corrupt is the whole mechanism of organized belief is. And coming from a half catholic half Jewish guy… you got to listen. He knows what he is talking about

But the thing that I really admire about Bill maher is that I do believe he is a crusader, a real patriot, not just a davey crocket warning the british from the invasion of paul reveer to the Delaware river. (what?! I am just getting ready for when she is president…)

Bill Maher is fighting the forces of evil to save the country. He is as fixed in his opinions as the other side in their delusions, and he is not letting go, fighting till they pry the country out of his cold dead hand. He describes himself as a patriot, but I think that is more to piss THEM off. He is more then a patriot.

He is one of the few who fight not only for the American people, but for the American spirit. More then any star spangled bus or clean cut war hero presidential candidate, bill maher is what America could be. A live and let live country, run by people who make relatively sane decisions, where people are free to smoke their lunchtime joint near the garbage container in the parking lot instead of looking in it for something to eat.

Don’t get me wrong. Maher is not the American dream.
but as George carlin used to say, it is time to wake up.
and Maher is doing the good work now that carlin is permanently neutorelized.
