NEEDLE

As you wake up this morning
something strange and askew
like a splinter stuck in your mind
paper cut on the edge of your soul

You will stare with glazed doughnut
at this morning bright new
and go on with a game of this kind
like we do every day one and all

You will brush your teeth well
and straighten your hair
and put uniform of approved citizen
as inside something eats your
intestines with doubt

you remember that feeling from when
you were still that small boy
who believed in believing
and had hope for the righteous
and the right way of living
as you played in your yard
when the world was your clam
before they sucked all your will
like a dried piece of ham

Who still buys and still toils
in the bored game of days
just a glimpse still remembers
that there are other ways
to make an existence
and a stand in this world
and not blindly just do
whatever you're told

As you look at this world
it was said once before
it is all upside down now
it's gone bad to the core

That splinter in your mind you see
is just a shred of truth you found
that will destroy the life you know
a needle in a big hay mound

A David and Goliath story where
the new set rules are not the same
as all you need is that small needle
to blow that bubble of this game
That needle of a compass will
show you just what you can be
as suddenly the puzzle pieces
show you what you have to see

The schools where we go to learn
kill education at great speed
the churches where we seek our comfort
kill the belief we sorely need
the doctors make us sick so
we can buy more pills and shots
the banks which hold our cash for us
just stole our last house lot
the governments that are parents
abuse us to the bone
so what's the shock when
we're just asking you leave us all alone?

As we remain here with that splinter
digging in our day's routine
without accepting what we need
to do by every mean
to just stand up and say “that's it”
we start a brand new leaf today
and nothing in this plastic world
can block us in our way
to just stand tall and say “enough”
it's time to live life without shame
as we stare to the stars inside
with hope and strength and endless pride
deciding what we shall decide
and finally just stand aside
and let go of this stupid game
